{Real Wedding} Meghan & Ryan

Clark+Walker Studio was formed as the brainchild of Alisha Clark and Luke Walker and boy did their business grow. C+W now is comprised of a team of 6 photographers and videographers. This wedding is by Andrew who is in the Albany, NY area.

Andrew shares about this wedding, "Meghan+Ryan met at UAlbany during pre-season for soccer and football, respectively.  They live out in San Clemente, California now, and you’d have no idea the wedding was planned while on the other coast because there wasn’t even as much as a single hiccup. It also helped that they both had the laid-back California attitude you’d expect!" Thank you Andrew for sharing this gorgeous wedding!

Syracuse University "open practice" at Fort Drum Watertown, New York

gavin smith syracuse footba.JPG
"I wanted to send a thank you to the Syracuse University football team for allowing the kids in attendance at the "open practice" at Fort Drum in Watertown, New York (on Wednesday) to practice alongside some of the players.

The picture (above) is my son, Gavin. His dad has been deployed to Afghanistan since January. It's been over seven months since Gavin has been able to throw around a football with dad, and we still have another couple months before we're able to welcome him home from this deployment. "Guy time" doesn't happen often around Fort Drum this year, as we have two brigades deployed and many of us don't have any family in the area to fill in the male roles when dads are gone.

Tonight I saw a smile on my son's face that I haven't seen in a while. He was among "men" catching up on so much that he has missed out on since January.

Tonight's practice was something he won't soon forget.

Thank you to the players and coaches that were so welcoming." from Kara Smith

{Guest Post} 5 Helpful Tips when booking your Homecoming Photographer

Kelly Cortes, Owner and Lead Photographer of Creative Imaginations Photography in Ft. Myers, Florida is back with some more helpful photography tips:

(1)  Have your photographer arrive about 30 minutes prior to the military arrival – this will ensure plenty a pre-arrival excitement photos without so much downtime in-between. *The only exception to this is if the Marines are doing a mobile armory!

(2)  You may be an introvert but you hired that photographer for a reason, so get your money’s worth – point, yell, jump up and down and wipe away those tears, they make for some great shots. Pre-plan out any photos that you would really like and discuss with your photographer.

(3)  Keep your photographer up-to-date. If you don’t know we know, then we don’t know you know. So tell us, email us, text us or send it on a little birdy. Sharing the most up to date info helps us plan exactly what time to be there.

(4)  Don’t worry if your hair isn’t perfect or your outfits wasn’t want you wanted.. He/she’s HOME and we’re there to capture those memories. Be yourself, grab him, kiss him/her, do whatever you want, its a judgement free zone because we’ve all been there!

(5)  Don’t expect all perfect smiles. Homecomings are stressful for everyone and it’s not the time for a photoshoot. We want to capture candid and real emotions and moments. Not all perfect smiles and perfectly posed pictures.

(6)  Schedule a post homecoming mini session after everything has calmed down and everyone has readjusted for those wonderful, perfectly planned photos.

(7)  ……and breathe!!

Busby Homecoming

Nicole, my friend and owner of my old biz in Savannah, Simply Savannah Events, has shared a photographer whom she has become very close with. Nicole explains, "Krystal Silva is a new photographer in the Savannah, GA area specializing in family portraits, children portraits and being a military wife herself she loves photographing homecomings. She is a supportive military wife and friend to other military wives in the Savannah area. Going through my first deployment with my fiance has been difficult and I have had a lot of ups and downs but Krystal has been an incredible shoulder to lean on during these times and always has great advice for how to "put your big girl panties on" and be the man of the house while our men are gone."
From Candice (the wife): "Daniel was originally supposed to leave Dec 16 but was fortunately allowed to stay until after the birth of his first child, a little baby boy!! Daniel left HAAF at 4am on Jan 10th when little Logan was just barely 3weeks old. Then while deployed we got some really great news!!! While overseas he was promoted and moved to a different company and this new company was scheduled to come home earlier then he thought so he got to come home just six months after leaving!"
Thank you Nicole & Krystal for sharing these photos and congrats to Candice and Daniel for being together again!

{Real Wedding} Jekeva & Travis

Valerie Pritt of Fleur de Lis Event Consulting is back with a military wedding she help with wedding planning. If you missed Valerie's welcome home BBQ click here

Jekeva joined military in July 2002. She enlisted as a dental assistant. Early in her career she deployed to Iraq in support of Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004 with the Stryker brigade, 3rd Brigade 2ID, of Ft. Lewis, WA. Upon returning she pcs'd from Ft. Lewis Wa to Washington D.C. At Walter Reed she served as NCOIC of the Oral Surgery Clinic. While serving in that position she started and completed her Associate of Arts degree. She later applied to the AMEDD Enlisted Commissioning program which she was accepted to and moved to Jacksonville, FL where she studied nursing at the University of North Florida. While in college she met Travis. Following completion of Nursing school she was commissioned and Attended Officer Basic Course in San Antonio, TX. Following gradation from the course she was assigned to Ft. Hood, TX as a 1LT, Army nurse. One year later she was reassigned to Ft. Stewart, GA. While at Ft. Stewart she commuted several times per week to be with her soon to be husband and plan her wedding. Shortly after the wedding she was honorably discharged from the military after serving for 10 years. WOW you got all that!!

Valerie describes, "Every Bride & Groom that I meet has a particular vision that they want their wedding to be. This is one of the reasons I love my job; I assist in making their dream a reality. Often times their vision is a representation of who they are as a couple and this couple really incorporated themselves in the details. Jekeva and Travis wanted their wedding experience to be that of a modern rose garden and they picked the perfect wedding venue: the Jacksonville Main Library. With its modern architecture, long staircases and open spaces, it was the perfect location for their rose garden with a contemporary twist. Every great wedding has a little element of surprise whether it’s with d├ęcor, a special groom’s cake or the dinner menu- this wedding had it all. It was a lot of fun working with Jekeva and seeing all of her DIY projects come to life. Travis built all the centerpieces by hand and Jekeva handcrafted a card box, six huge paper roses and their flower photo back drop. The wedding colors were from a contemporary palette of red, deep purple and grey. Jekeva & Travis, may your love bloom brighter and your companionship grow sweeter with each passing year. Congratulations on your wedding." Thank you Valerie for sharing their unique contemporary wedding.
