Blog Revamp!

I'm thrilled to share with y'all the new logos and look for A Military Story. It's still in the works as I continue to update the overall layout and design of the blog, but it's coming along beautifully! I couldn't have done it without the help of a lovely lady, Lauren Ledbetter from Nashville, TN. Lauren Ledbetter Design & Styling brings "creative direction to you in the most personalized way offering services including brand identity, event styling and personal expression by creating and capturing beautiful moments." Lauren is a huge supporter of the military and was so excited to help redesign A Military Story!! She listened so well and was able to create a modern, yet rustic, clean and versatile look that represents my goal for this blog but also reflects me as a person.

The funny thing about Lauren is that she was referred to me by a photographer and after looking at her portfolio I realized I actually knew about her already! I was a wedding planner in Savannah, GA and back in March of 2012 I helped clients with a honey theme intimate wedding. While looking for ideas for their wedding I came along this adorable rustic bee themed inspirational shoot that Lauren helped style, which you can see below, and see the whole shoot here. I guess it was "MEANT TO BEE"! Ha ha ha. Anyways, I really wanted someone who meshed well with my style and understood what I was looking for. Lauren has been wonderful to work with and I'm eager to keep working with her to finish the blog revamp.

There is also a lot more in the works for A Military Story now that I have new logos! I have the badges which you can grab if you have already been featured or have a logo on your blog linking back to A Military Story. BUT I will also be making bumper stickers for your car or stickers just for fun, and I'm working on a possible t-shirt design! A huge huge thank you to Lauren & to all of my of supporters and followers!

{Baby} Kayden

I've been desperately wanting more baby stories to share, and boy oh boy, we have the jackpot here! Kelly is a new vendor joining the A Military Story family and she has A LOT of baby stories that we will be able to enjoy in the weeks to come. Kelly is the owner and lead photographer of Creative Imaginations Photography which services the Southwest Florida and Eastern North Carolina. Kelly describes her business, "When I originally started this business I wanted to bring something different into the world of photography. I wanted to be able to create images that would inspire my clients, make them laugh and on occasion make them cry. I wanted to create an environment where you no longer just had your picture taken but you were opened to a world where your memories are captured, preserved and forever a part of your history. Welcome to your history in the making." Make sure you also check out Kelly's birth site.

Baby Kayden's story is going to make you cry, so get those tissues out! I am always in awe of women and their strength when they have to give birth while their husbands are deployed and to their husbands for having to watch from so far away when they can't touch or physically comfort their wife. Cpl Matthew and Brooke Jenkins baby, Kayden was born December of 2011, while dad was serving his 2nd tour in Afghanistan and was about 2 months from returning home. He watching from the webcam during the labor and from the c-section room.
The next day these infant pictures were taken by Kelly from the Hospital room – Kelly traveled over 5 hours for his birth so she did the First 48 in the hospital room.
Meeting Baby Jenkins for the first time!!

{Homecoming} Kari & Brad

Oh, how I love homecomings!! They are filled with much anticipation, hugs and lots of kisses! Jana Morgan, who is located in Paia, Hawaii, has done such a beautiful job capturing the tear-inducing reunion between Kari (of Style Me Pretty), her curly-haired son, and Brad, the very much missed husband & father. You can see the excitement of everyone after this seven month long deployment abroad. Jana is a fine art photographer who loves traveling and exploring the world. She's enthusiastic about people, life, love, and easily excited about all things beautiful. Something unique about Jana is that she works with a variety of cameras and film which allows her work to offer a unique fine art approach to capturing beautiful moments of life. I love this side by side photo post she did that illustrates film vs. digital image here

From Kari…

"Having my husband home is probably the greatest gift in the world, to say the least.
It was definitely a roller coaster deployment; watching our baby grow into a toddler (with tantrums to match), missing our anniversary, and birthdays…losing my grandmother and one very frantic (albeit totally silly) trip to the ER. But we weathered it with many saving graces. Mainly, the twice daily calls from my sister Katie, my mom and my best friend Cherie, along with a stream of cherished friends who flew out to Hawaii to visit.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted a photographer there to capture our first moments back together as a family. Photography has always been important to me. I cherish each one of my wedding photos and the photos we took of our sweet little Boden after he was born. I found Jana Morgan after she had been featured on Style Me Pretty and she was definitely the right choice! She was so so sweet to work with me and the flexible date schedule (there was the possibility the date would change last minute!) She was also such a trooper since neither of us knew what to expect or how it would all play out. She is also a film shooter. Something which intrigued me right away. Having a little experience in the dark room myself I loved the idea that these images would be burned into film, with no opportunity to delete. A romantic little touch on such a happy day." Read more about this homecoming on Style Me Pretty.
Back in 1999/2000 I lived in Hawaii because I went on exchange my Jr. year in college to UH Manoa and it was amazing!!!!!! I traveled around Oahu plus went over to Kauai and the Big Island to explore. I haven't been there since and boy do I want to go sometime with my husband. Thank you Jana for capturing this wonderful happy homecoming and letting us all pretend we were in Hawaii watching Kari and Brad reunite!

{Real Wedding} Sarah & Chris

Kristen Holly Carlson, a wedding & lifestyle photographer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She and Jamie, her husband are a husband & wife team, and totally love with what they do!

Kristen describes, "Sarah and Chris were married on 9.10.11 at Alger Park Church in Grand Rapids and celebrated afterwards at 25 Kitchen downtown. The whole day had a cool vibe, from getting ready that morning at the trendy Salon Re, to her perfect Maggie Sottero one-shouldered gown and luxe Badgley Mischka heels. Between ceremony and reception, we got to hang out with one of the funnest (and funniest!) bridal parties of the year! Between all the glam and fun, there were definitely some touching moments, like their heartfelt tearful vows, and when three generations got together and sang at the reception. There were a lot of tissues being passed around!  All in all, it was an amazing day. Emotion, beauty, and tons of love and laughter. Exactly what a wedding day should be."  Congrats Sarah and Chris!! Thank you Kristen for sharing.
