Wish Upon a Wedding is a fabulous organization that provides free-of-charge weddings, allowing couples facing serious life-altering circumstances to concentrate on the issues affecting their lives. From the venue to the cake, and most everything between, they take care of all the wedding planning and details. It is their hope that they can provide strength and courage to those facing similar situations, while celebrating the eternal commitment of marriage.
Wishes are granted with priority given to couples facing terminal illness (prognosis of under 5 years). However a limited number of “special circumstance” Wishes may also be granted each year, based on the individual chapter’s available resources.(Examples of possible “special circumstances” would be seriously injured military service members, or other extreme hardships). Couples must be over the age of 18, and citizens of the United States.
I found this wonderful wedding on their 2011 weddings. Meet Jake, a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps and Meredith, a former Marine Corps Officer. This couple was faced with adversities and hardships, that most of us may not be able to handle. Without knowing, a co-worker of Meredith’s submitted the couple’s story to Wish Upon A Wedding’s DC and the rest is history. Congrats Jake & Meredith!

I'm excited to share this military wedding for 3 reasons! First is that it's my best friend’s wedding, secondly, I absolutely love her bridal bouquet, and lastly because it has a great sword arch! Even though their wedding was back in 2008 it seems like it was just yesterday. Since their wedding Nicki and Shane have moved a few times, survived deployments, and have had 2 little kiddos!!
These wonderful images are by Gwyneth Colleen. Nicki & Shane found her through . They were planning their Portland, Maine wedding from very far away but wanted a New England fall wedding since Nicki and her family are from there. Gwyn was super excited, for their wedding since Shane is a marine fighter pilot, and Nicki is a photographer. Thank you to Gwyneth for sharing the photos!

With a deployment date set for fall 2009, Chris and I quickly planned our intimate local wedding before he left for Iraq. Our ceremony was at a historic square and the reception was held where we had our first date. When we found out that his deployment date was moved up we realized that we should probably plan our wedding sooner than planned. We did not want to wait a year to plan our wedding especially with Chris being in Iraq, nor did we have a big budget, so instead of doing a court house ceremony we planned an intimate gathering of friends and family. My first choice was to have our wedding at Tybee Island, but The Last Song was being filmed on the beach and logistically it would have been a nightmare. Instead, we decided to move our wedding to downtown. We also found out that the Moon River Brewing Company, where we had our first date, had a cellar downstairs available for small events that was just right for our size wedding and small budget. Thankfully no ghosts joined us for our wedding since a ghost named Toby haunts the billiard room and other spirits lurk according to Zak, Nick and Aaron from Ghost Adventures. Some of our family and friends were able to come to our wedding and one of my best friends was our photographer. It was a perfect intimate wedding that was surprisingly planned in less than a month!
